Applied Chiropractic meets Functional Anatomy
Focus: The cervico-thoracic (C-T) junction of the horse
The junction between the cervical and the thoracic spine is a very important area in the quadruped’s spine. Biomechanical disorders in this region can cause many problems especially in collection and engagement.
Dr. Steve Engle will demonstrate his techniques to address this region. Steve has integrated many different techniques, like SOT and manual mobilization techniques, to his classic chiropractic treatment. By using his whole body he creates extra velocity for adjustments in this area.
This seminar is composed of two parts.
In part one, Dr. Elbrønd will explain the anatomical structures of the C-T junction focusing on the functional correlation.
In her lectures she will focus on the importance of the CT-junction in regards to riding issues, as well as the challenges involved in treating this area of the equine spine.
In part two, Dr. Engle will present his unique treatment techniques on a horse.
Subsequent to this demonstration you will discuss these techniques in detail together with both Dr. Elbrønd and Dr. Engle.
Speakers:
Dr. Vibeke Sødring Elbrønd, DVM, PhD (Denmark); Associate Professor, Section of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Department of Clinical Veterinary and Animal Science, University of Copenhagen
Dr. Elbrønd graduated in Animal Chiropractic at the International Academy of Veterinary Chiropractic (IAVC) in 2009 and is also a certified member of the IVCA.
Besides her academic post, Dr. Elbrønd also runs her own clinic, where she treats horses, dogs and smaller animals using chiropractic techniques as well as other direct and indirect manual techniques. Her treatments are designed to manipulate the different components of the locomotion system such as connective tissue, muscles and supporting structures.
This combination gives her the opportunity to approach functional anatomy from the animal chiropractic point of view.
Dr Steven D. Engle, DVM (US, Florida)
After graduating veterinary school (Texas A&M University/1978), Dr. Engle worked for M. B. Teigland & Associates, primarily a racetrack practice in South Florida, until 1983. He moved to San Antonio Texas and started a mixed large animal practice until 1986 at which time he moved back to South Florida and went back to work at the racetrack until 1990. In 1990 he started his own practice mainly dealing with thoroughbred race horses and some show horses. He graduated in animal chiropractic at Options for Animals in 1995 and then reentered the program in 2000 to attain certification. In 2006 he sold his equine practice to begin a new venture in which he would treat his horse patients solely with chiropractic.
For the past 15 years Dr Engle has continued to treat some of the top US and International show jumping and dressage athletes. He is largely acknowledged as both an innovator and expert in the field of sport horse chiropractic.
During the second part of the seminar you will see a treatment demonstration by Dr. Engle. Accordingly you will have the opportunity to discuss the different techniques all together with Dr. Engle and Dr. Elbrønd.
The seminar is open for Veterinarians (DVM) and Human Chiropractors (DC) only and is limited to 30 participants.

Introduction to Postural Rehabilitation
Instructors: Karen Gellman DVM, PhD, Judith M. Shoemaker DVM, Elizabeth Reese CTATPostural Rehabilitation is an integrative, science-based approach to alleviating chronic performance problems and preventing musculoskeletal injury. It provides a global perspective on how manual therapies alter the complex systems that control the neuro-musculoskeletal apparatus in animals.
The training program includes in depth study of the neuroanatomy and neurophysiology concerned with initiating and maintaining normal standing posture and locomotion, analysis of distal mechanoreceptor systems that contribute to postural control (upper cervical, stomatognathic, distal extremity), and diagnostic and treatment methods using applied clinical neurology and advanced neurologic reprogramming techniques.
Through lectures, demonstrations, hands-on labs and individually tailored tutorials, participants will learn how to diagnose and treat postural abnormalities. Correct posture promotes normal function of the neuro-musculoskeletal system while at rest, allowing healing to take place. Correct posture integrates the movements of locomotion, improving performance and decreasing the risk of injury. Postural Rehabilitation training also emphasizes correct postural usage for the practitioner, both to facilitate effective kinesthetic communication with animals and to prevent work related injuries. The program utilizes unique team teaching approach, with integrated contributions from our clinical, scientific and kinesthetic experts throughout.

Simply Small Animals: The Geriatric Patient
After the success of the initial "Simply Small Animal" day in 2012, we are pleased to offer another informative and clinically oriented seminar, this time focusing on the geriatric patient. The topics and format of the seminar will once again encourage the exchange of practical knowledge and case management skills regarding our older patients.A Complete Review of Techniques
In response to many requests over the years, the IAVC has created a two day seminar to specifically provide animal chiropractors with a thorough and complete overview of veterinary adjusting techniques. We are pleased to be offering this new course format in 2013, which corresponds to our ten year anniversary of teaching veterinary chiropractic in Europe! We think this seminar fits VERY WELL with our Integrated II Advanced Module, as we continue to attempt to bring you more choices in learning veterinary chiropractic skills.
